Adding an AI assistant to your website
An AI assistant is a chat or voice window on your site that answers questions in plain language. Done well, it answers the same ten questions your team gets every day, at any hour, in French or English.
We run one on our own site. It is called Bo. It explains our services, answers in the visitor's language, and sends the team a short summary when someone wants to start a project. What follows is what we learned building it.
What a website assistant is good at
- Answering repeat questions. Hours, services, delivery areas, prices you already publish.
- Qualifying requests. Asking the two or three questions your team always asks, then sending a clean summary.
- Booking. Offering a time slot instead of starting an email chain.
- Working in both languages. It answers in French in Quebec and in English elsewhere, without a separate site.
What it should not do
- Invent prices, deadlines or legal answers. It should only use information you give it.
- Make decisions about a person on its own. A person should review anything that matters.
- Hide that it is an AI. Visitors should know.
Law 25: settle these before launch
Quebec's Law 25 applies as soon as the assistant collects a name, an email or a phone number.
- Tell visitors it is an AI, and which providers process the conversation.
- Collect only what you need, for a purpose you state at the point of collection.
- Keep trackers off until consent. The assistant should not load analytics on its own.
- Decide how long conversations are kept, and delete them after that.
- Assess data leaving Quebec. Most AI models run outside Quebec. Law 25 asks for a privacy impact assessment before personal information is communicated outside the province.

How to start small
Pick one job: answering questions about your services, or qualifying project requests. Give the assistant your own content as its source. Measure how many conversations end with a real request. Then add booking, internal tools or a voice version.
